Amritapuri is located in Kollam. It is the main abode of Mata Amritanandamayi, and the international headquarters of Mata Amritanandamayi Math. This ashram, which was originally known as Parayakadavu, is located on the north of Thiruvananthapuram at a distance of 110 kilometers, and 120 kilometers south of Cochin. The ashram is visited by thousands of visitors from around the world who come here in search of peace.
Visitors to the ashram are offered modest accommodation in rooms and dormitories. Food is served thrice a day. People staying in Amritapuri Ashram (residents as well as visitors) are only responsible for cooking and keeping the ashram clean. Everyone in the ashram needs to do at least two hours of seva everyday.
There is a canteen inside the Ashram as well, but it opens only on Thursdays and Sundays. There is one separate canteen for foreigners where they can satisfy their taste buds. Inside the ashram, you will see a charitable hospital and a branch of local Amritapuri post office as well.
The nearest airports to the ashram are Trivandrum International Airport and Cochin International Airport. Both of them are roughly 100 kilometers away from the ashram. To visit Amritapuri Ashram by train or bus, you will need to get down in Kayamkulam, which is 12 kilometers north of the ashram, or in Oachira which is 7 kilometers on the northern side of ashram. After that you will need to take a local bus to Vallickavu followed by a 10-minute walk to the backwaters, across which the ashram is located. You can cross the backwaters on free ferry boats run by the ashram.
